A data collection template for embodied energy and carbon of Indian construction materials has been included in informative Annex E. In alignment with the evolving demands of sustainability and resilience, this edition of the Part 11 of NBC incorporates significant updates to address contemporary challenges and improve its applicability across the built environment.
a) The scope of this Part has been thoroughly reviewed and updated to respond to emerging challenges, including climate change, ecological disruption, and the pervasive issue of widespread toxicity in materials and systems.
b) Clause 3, titled Approach to Sustainability, has been enhanced to reflect the latest practices and methodologies that support sustainable development. |

c) Clause 9 on Materials has undergone a comprehensive revision, now including detailed provisions on environmental impact categories, life cycle stages, whole-building life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology, LCA tools, and guidelines for environmental declarations and disclosures. These updates aim to promote transparency and accountability in material selection and usage.
d) The provisions related to Lifts, Escalators, and Moving Walks have been updated to integrate advancements in technology, safety measures, and energy efficiency.
e) A dedicated data collection template for assessing the embodied energy and carbon footprint of Indian construction materials has been included to encourage data-driven decision-making and facilitate sustainable material sourcing.
f) References to all the concerned Indian standards have been updated. |
