BIS Formulated 3 New Indian Standards for Built-In Satellite Tuners, C-Type Charger & Video Surveillance System

BIS has laid down three new standards in the field of digital television receivers with built-in satellite tuners, USB Type C receptacles, and plug with the standard for video surveillance.

New Standard to Ensure Convenient Reception Of Free To Air TV & Radio

For a long time, Doordarshan has been a source of spreading information regarding government schemes, initiatives, and educational content. Currently, televisions are required to have a set-up box attached to them for even viewing Free-To-Air TV and Radio channels. The Bureau of Indian Standards laid down Indian Standard IS 18112:2022 in order to fix this issue.

The new television sets manufactured as per the Indian standards would not require a set-up box to view Free-To-Air TV channels and Radio channels. They can simply do so by connecting a dish antenna with LNB mounted on a suitable place at the building’s rooftop/side wall. The manufacturers are expected to attest to the satellite tuners for digital television as per the laid standards that would fix the problem.

New Standards for USB Type C Receptacles, Plug, and Cables Published

The continuous increase of E-waste has been a cause of concern globally. The Bureau of Indian Standards laid down Indian standard IS/IEC 62680-1-3:2022 USB Type-C® Cable and Connector Specification to curb this problem. As per the laid down standard, various electronic device producers, such as phones, laptops, notebooks, etc, are expected to provide USB Type-C port, plugs, and cables in their devices.
The move is expected to provide a common charging solution for multiple devices sold nationwide. It will also increase users’ convenience as they will not have to carry different chargers for different devices. The government also aims to reduce the increase in e-waste as the laid down standard would directly reduce the number of chargers per customer, promoting sustainable development.

New Standards for Video Surveillance Systems

The Video Surveillance System has a very cluttered market in India. There are humongous options available in the market with different specifications, which may or may not be up to the mark. The Bureau of Indian Standards, with the help of its technical committee on Alarms and Electronic Security Systems, has developed a series of Indian Standards (IS 16910) on Video Surveillance Systems for use in Security Applications. IS 16910 series of Standards have been adopted from the International Standard IEC 62676 series.

The recently laid standards have mentioned various components specifications such as camera devices, interfaces, system requirements, and tests to ascertain the image quality of the camera devices and also specific guidelines on efficient installation of the system. This move will help installers, specifiers, and users pick out the right set of VSS per their requirements. It will also streamline the VSS sector as they would have certain criteria they are expected to follow.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been continuously working to simplify the lives of various stakeholders in the country. The abovementioned standards will streamline multiple industries operating in the country and make them more citizens-friendly. Video surveillance system is nice but did you try Coles Catalogue?
