Sardi Standardised with Satiation

As the winter season comes full bloom with cold winds and foggy mornings, you like to spend an extra hour curled up in cozy blankets with something to munch on. Indulging in your cravings to add a bit of warmth to the daily routine is completely acceptable. So cover yourself in warm woolens and munch on some dry fruits, peanut chikki or gur to drive away the winter blues.

Cold weather brings a drop in body temperature, which stimulates your appetite. Make sure each bite is full of health this winter. Gorge on dry fruits that are incredibly beneficial and appetizing too. Not only are they immensely delicious, but also loaded with health benefits. They can keep you full for a longer period of time, which in turn, will keep you away from bingeing on junk food items.

Dry fruits are also some of the healthiest alternatives to salty, fried snacks and a great way satiate your cravings to nibble something during winters. They also work to satisfy a sweet craving while, providing you the much-needed nutrients, vitamins and heat in the winter chill. They are a quick and delicious way to derive energy during a busy day. No diet regime is complete without dry fruits as they are packed with various nutrients and essential fats if eaten in moderation.

Along with dry fruits, the other winter staples like peanut chikki, jaggery, desiccated coconut and edible gums make a delectable recipe for winter months. Different combinations of these ingredients are used to make traditional winter specials like panjiri, laddu etc. The appeal of such products has not diminished in current times also due to their appealing taste and health benefits they come with. Traditionally made from peanuts, chikki is the Indian bar giving even the fanciest of chocolates a tough competition. Just like chocolate, it is hard to stop at just a bite. The fact that these are easy to store just adds value to this crunchy snack.

Dry fruits, in general, are a powerhouse of essential fatty acids, fiber and proteins. They are a great natural source of vitamin E, minerals like zinc, selenium, magnesium, iron, calcium to name a few. They are known to promote blood circulation, improve hemoglobin levels and reduce cholesterol. It’s good for the skin and hairs too.

BIS has formulated Indian standards for various winter essentials like IS 7750 Cashew nuts; IS 7749 Walnuts; IS 16117 Chilgoza nuts; IS 10619 Spiced and sweetened cashew nuts; IS 966 Desiccated coconut, IS 12923 Cane jaggery, IS 13952 Palm jaggery and IS 7592 Peanut chikki. The Indian Standards on dry fruits prescribe quality parameters such as maximum moisture content, ash content, acid insoluble ash, free fatty acids etc. The standards also prescribe hygiene criteria and microbiological requirements for nuts. Packaging and labeling requirements are also stipulated to enable misleading claims and enable consumers to make informed choices. Products like peanut chikki prescribe limit for total sugars and the minimum requirement for fats and proteins. The standards on jaggery prescribe total ash, sulphated ash, moisture content and limits of sulphur dioxide.

You can be assured of a quality product as you buy products meeting the BIS standards. With the quality assurance of BIS, you need not worry about quality, safety, adulteration in products you have paid dearly for. So, ask for BIS certified products and sit back and enjoy the winters with dry fruits, peanut chikki, jaggery.

    A very nice initiative taken by BIS. It’s was beyond of our imagination that very small food grade item like jaggery or chikki etc, one day will come under BIS standardisation.
